In the blogging community, a huge money making opportunity came up for people to write reviews about other websites and get paid to write those reviews. This is the main source of income for many blogs. The reason people would want reviews done of their site was to simply get backlinks and traffic from other websites. You could choose the anchor text for the backlinks. Although they weren’t free backlinks, they were backlinks nonetheless.

The problem was that Google realized that people were passing pagerank for money, and they didn’t like that, so they cracked down on many of these sites. So, the pagerank links people paid for, mostly all went down in pagerank. This is the standard problem with buying links. But, you don’t have to buy backlinks when there are many free opportunities to build backlinks for free.

But, there are quite a few sites that will review your blog for free, and you get free backlinks from these places and also a bit of traffic too. So, here is the list of sites to get backlinks with for free (all PR’s listed are as of early May 2008):

BlogsRater.com
This simple review site is a PR 3. You can add your blog and write a quick summary of it, and get a backlink back to your site. Then, if you review and rate other blogs, your blog has a chance to be featured on their front page.

InspiritBlog.com
You can get a free review of your site from this PR 4 blog. Just go to the page I linked to above, and leave a comment for him, and he will review your site.

Web-Reviewers.com
This PR 3 site uses a 5 star system to rank websites. They give an in depth review of your site. If you might get your feelings hurt by a bad review, then don’t use this site. But, you can get free backlinks, and some tips on how to improve your site’s content and design.

Bloggeries.com
This PR 5 blog, with a very popular forum for webmasters, will do a review of your site. The reviews are free, but because of their high demand, it may be a little while until your blog gets reviews. But, you might as well queue up now, and enjoy the nice surprise backlink a little bit down the road. You can pay $50 to get an expedited review, but I suggest just going for the free one.

Untwisted Vortex Reviews
This is a PR 3 blog, a subdomain of a much larger blog, that focuses on doing free reviews. The queue takes a little bit of time to move up, but it is worth it down the road for some nice link juice on a solid domain. The queue is only 8 people deep… when I signed up it was like 15 people deep or something, so you can get in at a good time as of this writing.

BlogsWeLuv.com
This is a PR 3 reviews blog that uses a slightly different concept than the rest. They give you 10 questions to answer about your blog, in sort of an interview style, so you can kind of break your site down to them. Then, if they think your blog is interesting, they’ll do an in depth review of it. Even if you don’t get chosen, the 10 questions still provides a backlink. If you get chosen for a big review, then you can get more backlinks to your site!

OurBlogReview.com
This site will also give you free reviews with dofollow backlinks back to your site.

Hopefully you enjoyed these link building tips… go out there and get your site reviewed and get more backlinks!

Not to toot my own horn, but I am a pretty funny guy.  I am quick witted and I usually have comebacks right on the spot.  Don’t tell me an embarrassing story, or I will bring it back around many, many times reminding you of it.  But, the topic of link building really doesn’t allow for much humor.  I throw it in every now and then, but it’s just not a platform for me to be funny.

So, I created Backlinks Boxing… every so often, I will analyze the websites of people who are in the news (in the U.S. or the world) and I will pit them against each other, seeing their page ranks, their amount of backlinks and my commentary on these sites.

I came up with this idea while using the restroom at work, wondering how many backlinks Barrack Obama’s website had.  I was only going to do one post, about the current (Spring 2008) U.S. Presidential candidates.  But as I thought about it, this could be a nice fun exercise where we might be able see how many times people link to people’s sites, since I am sure that the campaigns don’t do much link building.

Look forward to this section coming up.

A blog I just subscribed to this past weekend, released a cool Wordpress Plugin called Comment Info Tip, and so I am one of the first to implement it… In the comments section, when you put your mouse over someone’s name, it tells you how many comments they’ve made on my blog, the last 3-4 blogs they’ve posted on and if they’ve posted more than one comment, then it attempts to grab their blog’s feed and it shows a snippet with a link back to your blog!  Although since this is some sort of css overlay, or whatever it is, I don’t think it has any specific link building application, it just looks cool.

I also downloaded the secure version of the Top Commenters plugin, so those of you looking to build backlinks with the Top Commenter plugin, your backlinks are safe, since the old Top Commenters plugin had a flaw in it that allowed people to hijack your top commenters link.  But, it’s all safe now.

I hope you guys are enjoying DoFollow Diver, our DoFollow Blog Search Engine!!
