Not to toot my own horn, but I am a pretty funny guy.  I am quick witted and I usually have comebacks right on the spot.  Don’t tell me an embarrassing story, or I will bring it back around many, many times reminding you of it.  But, the topic of link building really doesn’t allow for much humor.  I throw it in every now and then, but it’s just not a platform for me to be funny.

So, I created Backlinks Boxing… every so often, I will analyze the websites of people who are in the news (in the U.S. or the world) and I will pit them against each other, seeing their page ranks, their amount of backlinks and my commentary on these sites.

I came up with this idea while using the restroom at work, wondering how many backlinks Barrack Obama’s website had.  I was only going to do one post, about the current (Spring 2008) U.S. Presidential candidates.  But as I thought about it, this could be a nice fun exercise where we might be able see how many times people link to people’s sites, since I am sure that the campaigns don’t do much link building.

Look forward to this section coming up.

I’ll guess (without peeking with my SEO Quake FF plugin) that Barack’s web site has 2x or 3x more links than Hillary’s site!
This is because BO’s constituency (younger college age demographic) is more internet savvy.

A pretty nifty idea actually. if we did it in out own heads while doing things like spying on competitors, it could be a fun way to do a somewhat boring task.

This actually gave me another idea: what if there was something like GoogleFight except with the fighting criteria being backlinks, Alexa ranking, RSS subscribers, etc. It’d even have a sweet animated graphic.
