Link Building Olympics: June 2008

Well, another month has passed since the last Link Building Olympics that I announced, well, a month ago. If you don’t know what the Link Building Olympics is, well, click this: Link Building Olympics.
Essentially, it’s a way for me to be able to track my own link building efforts, as well as give you guys an opportunity to see how many links you have, and maybe evaluate how well we’ve been doing or not been doing.
To check, follow these directions, and post your results in a comment… you may also want to go back to the previous Link Building Olympics,and see how well you did, in order to compare.
1) Search at https://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com for your site… (be sure to use www if you use www or exclude www if you don’t use it in link building.) The number next to “Inlinks” at the top is your number of backlinks.
and
2) Go to http://seopro.com.au/free-seo-tools/link-checker/ and enter your URL, and check the “links count” check mark…Once it starts showing your backlinks, the number at the top next to “Results (Total ###)” will be your number.
So, here goes:
Last Month:
1) 8,023
2) 6,609
This Month:
1) 9926
2) 12143
Wow, whatever database the SEOPRO site uses, must have found a bunch more of my links, as it almost doubled. Yahoo on the other hand has fluctuated throughout the month. A few days ago it was at 12,000, and today it was at 9,900ish. Oh well, almost 2000 more in a month, I am excited about that!

great job on the link building. I think a lot of bloggers forget that building links is just as important as content creation. i also noticed a lot of my links were not being registered by a lot of these sites. I guess the web is too vast. too many sites and links to index.

The number of backlinks shown by Yahoo seems to vary on a day to day basis. I dont know when this started, or if its always been the case, but I recently noticed.
I noticed a drop in YSE link count, recently. No change in GWT count. Still waiting for those “WedExperts.com” links to be indexed…..about 300 PR-4 links should be added to my totals, SOON!!!

i thought it showed the total count…..hmmmm….
but yah, if u did it with links count off….. keep doing it that way for benchmarking purposes….
my backlink count dropped since last month… but I am pretty sure it is because last month I was top commentator on a few blogs that have a few hundred pages at least! this month I haven’t really been commenting on blogs as much as I would have liked to…

one thing i did notice is that a lot of the backlinks have PR0… but that is only because they are fresh meaning they will eventually be given a pagerank.. so in a few months those are going to be good for link juice

Yah, this is why i don’t completely believe in people wasting time to pinpoint the higher PR pages of a website.
here’s one thing i’m wondering - a lot of times, google doesn’t recognize the backlinks even when yahoo counts them. at the same time, i notice my site goes up the SERPS with more yahoo backlinks.

I always laugh when I read these posts…….some people must think that you can wave a “magic wand” and make the SERP appear like some illusionist’s trick in Las Vegas.
SEO is hard work, it requires a lot of TIME and effort. Read all you can, join as many Do-Follow forums (DP, V7n, etc), and you too will eventually get results in the manner you’re seeking.
Yah…. read all of my articles, and it’ll help you build links, and eventually you’ll be at the top of google…
I’ve been working for weeks to get my links up and have about 460. I’m tired but I’m hopeful I can get some job leads. Thanks.

My numbers finally came in, as those 366 individually indexed pages from that Wedding Experts site came through in Google Webmaster Tools count of “External Links”
I’m using GWT and YSE as my benchmarks, rather than the inflated SEO pro you guys seem to like:
Last month: GWT 2252
This month GWT 2643
YSE has actually dropped off: was over 3,500 -now- stuck at 3,300+/-
SEO pro is not over inflated, rather GWT and YSE are under-reported. It is widely known that Google and yahoo don’t reveal all of the links that they see.
Thats why i suggest picking 1 or 2 and measuring the growth between months for those, rather then comparing them against each other.
I chose seopro and Yahoo cuz they are easy to get the numbers quickly and don’t require people to sign up to something…. i didn’t choose GWT cuz it requires signup and only reports new links every so often.

GWT = 2695 (up from 2643 on July 4)
increase of 50 in 2 weeks, not bad by any stretch of the imagination- I haven’t really done much in that time (changed a few forum siggies’ anchor text).
My link building efforts have stalled lately. One month they go up a thousand, but then a lose a thousand the next month. O well, nothing I can do but keep plugging away and finding new ways to build links.
