Link Building Tip: List of SEO Friendly Directories

Submitted by R.J. Breakaway Adams on Friday, 11 July 200845 Comments

I previously had a guest post about Using New Directories to Get Free Backlinks.  The guest writer wrote about submitting your articles to new directories, in order to get listed quicker, in turn having the link crawled and counted quicker.  He had a link to his website, where he had a huge list of directories for link building.

Well, I have come across a great SEO Friendly Directory List.

You can find that list at Directory Maximizer.

Scroll down to where you see a link for “our directory list” and click that link.

As of writing this, they have 800+ SEO Friendly Directories, with links to the directory for easy browsing.  They even have a little button which lists the PageRank of each directory.  Directories can be very beneficial with regards to link building, and this site has done the hard work finding the ones that are SEO friendly (don’t use redirects, are dofollow, etc.)

But, submitting to directories, and let’s be honest, link building in general, can be very, very boring and tedious.  I have a site dedicated to link building, and I still find link building to be very, very boring.  That’s why there are people who are willing to do the boring work, and get paid to do it.

Directory Maximizer is one of those places.  If you don’t want to spend any money for link building, then just go to the list above and start manually submitting to the directories.

But, if you’d like links to your site to appear in some good SEO friendly directories, and don’t want to have to do the work, then I’d definitely suggest using Directory Maximizer and have them submit to the directories for you.

Here’s what you get if you choose to let them do the work for you:

  • Permanent links… with no reciprocal linking required.  That means one-way links to your site.
  • As mentioned above, SEO friendly directories only are used.
  • They allow you to choose 5 different titles and descriptions, for more “natural” looking submissions.
  • There are a bunch of category choices, and a wide range of niches.
  • You can submit to all, or specific directories, submit by PageRank, and even control the pace at which they make the submissions, so that you don’t get way too many links at once.
  • They greatly increase the probability of your site being approved in the directories by making sure they meet all of the guidelines and post in the most relevant category.
  • They are constantly adding new sites so you can always get new links.
  • They help to avoid duplicate submissions on future orders (if you choose to not submit to all) because they keep track of previous submissions.
  • They provide you with live reports of the submission progress.
  • You can manage and submit multiple sites to the directories from one account.
  • You can even earn FREE SUBMISSIONS every time you use their services.
  • You can place orders for as little as $5 (think, you just got a lil extra cash in your paypal, why not link build with it.  You don’t have to spend hundreds at a time!)
  • And the best part, each submission is only 14cents!  So, that’s 100 submissions for only $14!

Click here to sign-up for Directory Maximizer, and let them do the directory submissions for you.

Or, if you don’t want to spend money, just use their freely available list of SEO friendly directories and start submitting to the sites yourself, and get some great backlinks!

Do you mean Directory Maximizer? Or the individual directories?

Good question. I’d like to know myself how long does it take for Directory MAX and the individual directories to approve our sites?

With all due respect, I believe this use of “offshore” personnel to perform the dirty work begs the obvious question: HOW do they check to make sure that I haven’t already manually added my link? MOST of the directories on their list, are ones I’m currently listed. (My recent purchase of 367+ PR 3 + Related (DJ/wedding) links is looking better & better, we’ll see if the SEO really kicks in from this investment).

  • Halim-Belajar SEO said:

    yes, I mean directory maximizer.

This because usually some directories that give free service will give approve time too long than paid. I will choose free but need to know how does it takes. If take less than a month, it still ok with me.

Halim-Belajar SEOs last blog post..Some funny thing about Belajar SEO contest.

  • Breakaway said:

They don’t check….but, they do allow you to specify which ones you have submitted to already, so that they don’t resubmit…..

  • Breakaway said:

I have no clue…. what they do say is that they will make it most possible for you to be accepted.

But, these directories do probably get a lot of submissions, so it might take more than a month. But, the truth it, it will take more than a month whether you submit it yourself or whether directory maximizer submits it. if you want quick links today, don’t even mess with any directories… just submit comments to blogs and you can get quick and easy backlinks.

But, the good thing with directories is that they do take longer to be accepted to some, so it spreads the links out making them look more natural.

Another point that I’d like to make, is that these submission services don’t take the time to investigate the ACTUAL PR OF THE PAGE THE LINK WILL APPEAR. For example, I looked at one of those “supposedly” PR-5 directories, and when I found my category, Entertainment -> Music, the PR was only PR2. THAT was for the first page (”Sponsored Links”). When I went deeper to find the last page (where my “Free” listing would appear), SEO Quake said “PR n/a” (no Page Rank at all).

That said, I prefer manual submissions, to directories that SORT BY PAGE RANK. The directories that sort by PR, usually put my link on the first or second page of the category (because my site is PR3).

I don’t think the Directory Submission services think these things through…….which is why I won’t use these “Offshore” companies to do my dirty work…

each individual directory receiving a submission will still take the same amount of time to approve or disapprove your site; however, you don’t have to manually go to each site and submit yourself which I guess can get annoying after a while…
    :)

  • Breakaway said:

There’s hundreds and hundreds of categories in each directory…. no person in their right mind would be able to go through and get the PR of each and every page on a directory.

That PR 2 page of the category you submit to… that could be PR 0 on the next update, or it can be PR 4… and with it being pr 4, it may have passed more to the second page.

Whether you submit it manually or they submit it for you, it doesn’t matter….. you’ll still get on the same page regardless.

Like I mentioned in the article, there’s people who won’t ever use this service, and i don’t blame them… I haven’t used this service either. But I also don’t blame those who do want to use directory submission services because it saves a whole hell of a lot of time when building backlinks.

And there’s DP directory submitters, and then there’s reputable companies who set up websites, and do the most that they can to get your site accepted… Directory Maximizer is one of those.

It’s the same with DJs…. some people want cheesy music at their weddings, but most don’t… so for you to cater to those who don’t is smart, but also there’s some DJ’s who do play cheesy music, and probably get great reviews from some people, because that’s what they want.

I’ll be going into it in an upcoming post, but this blog isn’t about methods for everyone to use. i am just showing methods available and each person needs to go through and see which ones work best for their sites and blogs and which ones don’t. I don’t even use all of the tips on here, one because I don’t have time and have a full time job and can’t dedicate my life to SEO practices, whereas there’s some people who can and that’s awesome, they may use all of the techniques. Some of the techniques are better and some aren’t. But all of the techniques help to build backlinks back to people’s sites.

Submitting to that directory you mentioned, on the PR 0 page, because it’s HIGHLY relevant, it actually may do better than a pr 3 or a pr 4 backlink on a non-relevant page.

And in the end, backlinks are all about numbers in non-competitive niches.

I hope this helps to clear it all up…. but for a general directory submission service, or ANYONE for that matter, to investigate the pr of every single page on ONE directory, let alone the PR of every single page of all 830+ directories, would be absolutely ludicrous to expect!

  • Breakaway said:

Thank you…. exactly my point….. I quit doing directory submissions because it’s boring…. so if i can pay someone, I will… I recommended directory maximizer because they allow you to make smaller payments, instead of a huge chunk of $115+ to submit to all directories! I’ll never have $115 spare to put to directory submission, but I will have $5 eventually, so i can get SOME links.

  • Data Entry said:

I have been using Directory Maximizer - not seeing the links yet but will be patient.

  • Breakaway said:

Dude… you said the same thing with the Mr Wong links…. links take time to show up, because the search engines crawl everywhere at a different rate. Link building is a long long long long process. Some things take forever to show up, but if you build links, they will eventually show up if they are dofollow.

Right now, you have 946 links on Yahoo….. once you pass 1000 links, you wont even be able to see all of the links you’ve made anyway, as yahoo only does 1000 of your links…

if you are spending time checking every single link you make, you are wasting TONS AND TONS of time that could be spent making even more links.

Now onto the topic at hand…. As with any directory submissions, either by hand, or through a service like Directory Maximizer, it can take a while for the links to be accepted. Some directories have a long backlog of submissions, and can take up to a month or three months. It’s the same whether it’s done manually or through service. I did a link building service in February for one of my sites, and some didnt start getting accepted until May.

Be patient dude, and just keep building more links instead of always checking your links:

Read these tips when checking your sites backlinks.

The price $14 for 100 submissions is kind of expensive… You can get this for about $5 on DP. I actually hired few guys from there to do submissions for my own and clients sites :) Another negative part about outsourcing directory submissions - not many let you use more than 1 or 2 variations title/description.

I think they use a simple script to do the directory submissions. They probably can’t get thru all the captcha’s but they just load your details into the programs database and line it up with the directories you choose than push a button and someone sits there and manually types in the captcha’s and keeps hitting submit as the next site hits the screen.
Basically an auto form fill type of program attached to a directory database.

Anyway, it’s probably a bit expensive but what’s your site worth? $14.00 for 100 inbound directory links and I don’t have to sit there figuring it all out sounds good to me.

Wait a month or 2 for the results. I believe that not all of the directories will show up even after a year (as inbound links) because of any number of search engine filters.

How many of us have submitted to a bunch of directories already and very few of them ever appear as inbound links?

I just put a clients site up 2 month ago. I had zero links and after I got it indexed it was at #76 for a low competition local keyword. Two weeks ago I submitted to two hundred directorys through the company you’re talking about “maximizer” Many where accepted right away, many are pending. only 187 were submitted so I go credit for the rest. I did look at some of the pages I was on to see if they were indexed or not, most were not. This morning I noticed that I did have some backlinks from directories and my rank is #32 for my main keyword. I’ll use them again.

I recommend all of you to take a look at “Fast Blogfinder” a tool that makes you able to not only get the PR for the domain, but also for the actual page, sort by niches and a lot more.

For Directory submitting I am currently testing the “Fast Directory Submitter” from the same vendor.

After reading this blog I think I also have to take a look at some other services as well.
